On 7 December, the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Beijing-Canberra sister-city relationship was held in Canberra, the capital of Australia. The event was hosted by the Friends of Canberra Beijing Garden and organized by the Australia China Business Council, attracting over a hundred local participants.
Xiao Qian, Chinese Ambassador to Australia, attended the event and delivered a speech. He noted that under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, China-Australia relations have achieved a comprehensive turnaround and are showing positive momentum, bringing tangible benefits to both nations and their peoples. He emphasized that the vitality of China-Australia relations lies at the sub-national level. Beijing and Canberra have engaged in close cooperation in education, tourism, economy and trade, and other fields, achieving fruitful outcomes. He expressed the hope that both sides could take the 25th anniversary as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation across various sectors and promote shared prosperity and development.
Andrew Barr, Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory, and Carol Keil, President of the ACT Branch of the Australia China Friendship Society, said that the sister-city relationship between Canberra and Beijing embodies the deep friendship between the peoples of the two countries. They also expressed their commitment to further advancing cooperation between the two cities.
